English Resource Centers(ERC)

What are English Resource Centers?

The U.S. Embassy-funded English Resource Center (ERC) initiative, implemented by American Councils in Tajikistan, supports English language educators and strengthens the quality of English language instruction across higher education institutions throughout the country.

Since its establishment, the ERC initiative has provided English language faculty with opportunities for professional development, access to modern teaching methodologies and educational technologies, and connections to international English language teaching resources and communities. The centers serve as professional hubs where educators can exchange knowledge, develop their teaching skills, and explore innovative approaches to English language instruction.

The ERC network currently includes two physical Professional Development Centers, located at host higher education institutions in Dushanbe and Bokhtar, as well as a Virtual ERC Community connecting English language educators from higher education institutions across Tajikistan. Established in 2023, the Virtual ERC Community has expanded to include educators from Dushanbe, Bokhtar, Khujand, Khorog, Panjakent, Kulob, Gharm, Danghara, and other locations.

Our purpose

The English Resource Centers provide a professional platform for English language instructors to continue developing their teaching skills, exchange experience with colleagues, access current resources, and engage with modern approaches to English language education.

Through physical and virtual programming, the ERC initiative creates opportunities for educators to strengthen their professional practice while building a connected national community of English language instructors.

Our objectives

The ERC initiative advances its mission through several core objectives:

  • Supporting the professional development of English language instructors at higher education institutions across Tajikistan.

  • Providing access to modern English language teaching methodologies, educational technologies, tools, and resources.

  • Creating opportunities for English language faculty to exchange knowledge, experience, and best practices.

  • Connecting educators through physical centers and the Virtual ERC Community.

  • Strengthening links between Tajikistan's English language teaching community and the wider international English language education community.

  • Serving as focal points for methodology development, skills acquisition, collaboration, and continued professional learning.
